Silent Knight Model 5499 Control Unit Compatibility
Why isn't there a fire alarm control panel compatibility list for the 5499? This question comes up quite often from AHJ's when connecting the 5499 to a control panel manufactured by someone other than Silent Knight.
First of all you must consider what the 5499 actually is. As far as a FACP is concerned the 5499 is a notification appliance. If you will refer to any notification appliance specification sheet you will see that they do not list compatible control panels. The reason for this is that it would be impossible to list all of the compatible FACPs and keep the list up to date. The 5499 will operate with an input range of 9 VDC to 30 VDC which covers virtually every FACP currently manufactured. UL agreed with this and decided that there was no need for a compatibility list as long as we stated the following in the installation manual. “This product is compatible with any UL Listed Local Control Unit That Utilizes Reverse Polarity Supervised Notification Circuits”. This statement can be found on Page 4 of the installation manual under UL Requirements. If you should find yourself in a situation where the AHJ is questioning compatibility, you can contact Brian Foltz or Jack Grones in our Application Engineering Department for further information.
For proper operation, use polarized devices with a Model 7628 4.7K ohm EOL resistor on each circuit. All supervised notification appliances used with the 5499 must be polarized. The chart below lists notification appliances compatible with the 5499. Scroll down the list or click on the manufactrurer name.
