Signal Input Terminals
Terminals 14 through 19 are polarized signal input terminals. These terminals perform two functions. First, they communicate to the 5499 when and what output circuits to activate. Second, they provide supervision of the 5499.

5499 Output Activation
The signal input(s) on the 5499 monitor the polarity of the voltage coming from the main FACP's (Fire Alarm Control Panel's) notification circuit(s). The notification circuit polarity is one direction in a non-alarm state. In an alarm state, the polarity reverses direction and triggers the 5499 to activate it's outputs or notification circuits.
The example below shows INPUT 1 of the 5499 activating all four outputs when the main FACP goes into alarm and reverses polarity on the trigger notification circuit.
